What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) connects eaters directly with their local farmers.

Before the growing season, members in Ottawa & Gatineau pay for a CSA membership. In return, they receive fresh vegetables every week or every other week.
Farming is full of uncertainties, risk, and in our climate, a mostly seasonal business. This model helps farmers offset some of those risks by collecting funds before the growing season begins - when we have most of our expenses including seed, equipment, compost, etc.

CSA has been around since the 1960s with its roots tracing back to Black farmers in the Southern US, Japan, and Europe, spreading to the US and Canada in the mid-eighties. CSA farming has continued to become more popular and while traditionally focused on vegetables, can also include meat, eggs, bread, flowers, etc.

By joining our CSA, you support our farm’s mission to grow delicious, nutrient-rich food using regenerative organic practices.

What can I expect in terms of vegetables each week? The CSA invites you to eat seasonally so the contents of your weekly basket will vary depending on the month. We try to strike a balance every week, and usually include a mix of salad greens, root vegetables, fruiting vegetables, alliums and herbs. There will always be some familiar favourites like carrots, tomatoes, lettuce, onions and garlic. You will also discover a few new vegetable varieties to try throughout the season, like purple napa cabbage, black cherry tomatoes, and delicata squash. Our goal is to inspire you to cook more and be more connected to eating seasonally. Usually, you receive 7-8 different vegetables.
-
How do I receive my vegetables?Every week, members pick up their share at their designated pick-up location during the pick up window. You'll bring a reusable bag or box with you to the pick-up.

Your calendar will be set up with a delivery every two weeks, but you can change it to suit your needs.

What is the Family Farmers Network contribution? The Family Farmers Network is a not-for-profit network of over 150 certified organic CSA farms in Québec. The Network has created an online platform to help us manage our CSA and collectively market our CSA program. Every CSA member makes a $28 contribution that goes directly and entirely to the operation of the network, which works to promote the CSA model in Québec to build stronger connections between farmers and eaters.

I'm not sure the CSA model is right for me. Are there other ways to purchase vegetables from your farm? You're right! Since everyone eats differently, the CSA model isn't right for everyone! There are many other ways of incorporating more local, organic vegetables into your diet including shopping with us at the farmers market and at our farm store.

Are all of your vegetables certified organic?Yes! We are certified organic through Ecocert. This means that we farm without the use of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. Beyond our organic certification, we practice agroecology on the farm. Agroecology is a holistic approach to food production that uses—and creates—social, cultural, economic and environmental knowledge to promote food sovereignty, social justice, economic sustainability, and healthy agricultural ecosystems.
