Meet the farmers

We are Alix & Doug, and we are entering our 9th season farming and our 1st official season on our own land!

Neither of us grew up on a farm, but we found our way here through a love of nature, food, and wanting to contribute to building a more ecological, resilient and just food system.

We are passionate about sharing our love for organic agriculture and local food and nourishing our community.

Ferme des Petites Victoires—named to remind us to celebrate the small wins in the often challenging world of farming—is the result of nearly a decade of learning, growing, and persevering to realize our dream to steward soil, water, life, and grow good food.

2025 marks our first season in full production in Luskville and we couldn't be more excited to get growing!

Farm Journey

Starting in 2016, we worked on several farms in BC and Ontario before coming back to the Outaouais where Alix grew up and where we found an opportunity to start our own farming project. La Plateforme Agricole de L’Ange-Gardien is a one-of-a-kind program that helps new farmers in their start-up phase. We were there for 5 years, slowly building our skills and our business, and saving up for a down payment on a farm of our own. In 2022, we were able to purchase 20 acres about 25 km from Ottawa in the Pontiac region.

The farm is nestled between the Ottawa River to the West and the Gatineau Hills to the East and backs onto the Breckenridge Creek Nature Reserve managed by the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

We started out with a fallow field and after lots of hard work, patience, perseverance and investment, have turned it into a thriving organic farm. Over the last two years, we have built a farm store, greenhouses and coolers. We have prepared fields and cover cropped to nourish the soil. We've worked on excavation, water, electricity, permits, and the behind-the-scenes work of getting these projects financed. We're incredibly proud of what we've built so far and can't wait to grow food and flowers on this little slice of land!

How we farm

At Ferme des Petites Victoires, we practice agroecology. We grow on a small scale using only close plant spacing and a permanent bed system. This allows us to enjoy the feeling of soil beneath our feet and to explore the intimate connections between the soil, the plants, and the diverse array of living things that also call our farm home.

Soil health is at the heart of our practices.

🪱We always try to put soil health first

🐝 We ocus on promoting biodiversity

🌱 We build soil organic matter

🌈 We aim to disturb the soil as little as possible

We believe that environmental sustainability is inextricably linked to social and economic justice. We follow fair labour practices, donate food to our local food bank, and are actively working to make the farm and the food we grow accessible to everyone.

We farm on unceded Algonquin territory. As farmers, we recognize that Indigenous people have stewarded land, watersheds, and seed since time immemorial. To learn on what traditional territory you live and work, go to www.native-land.ca.
